Mapstory

Privacy Policy

Effective October 17, 2026

Yerim Lab ("we," "our," or "us") operates Mapstory: Places in Time. This policy explains how information is handled when you explore places, search for stories, or contact us.

Map and search information

Mapstory does not require an account. It uses the map area you view and the places you search for to find nearby history, resolve place names, and display map results. Map and place searches use Apple's map and geocoding services. Historical articles and images are requested from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. These services receive the queries or map coordinates needed to answer a request and may receive ordinary network information, such as your IP address, under their own privacy policies.

On Android, Mapstory may ask for foreground location permission when you search for a place because the device's geocoding service requires it. You can manage this permission in device settings. Mapstory does not display your live location on its map or use background location tracking.

Information stored on your device

Mapstory caches place suggestions, search results, historical content, and downloaded images on your device so they can load faster later. This cached information is not sent to Yerim Lab as an account history. You can remove it by uninstalling the app; doing so may also remove content you had available offline.

Feedback and support

If you use the in-app TellUs! form, your message is sent to our Firebase service and delivered to us by email. The service uses a hash of the request's IP address and request times to limit repeated submissions. We use your message to review feedback and improve Mapstory. If you email us for support, we receive your email address and anything you include. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information. We keep correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to respond and follow up; you can ask us to delete a message at the address below.

External links and sharing

Some links open Google Search or Street View outside Mapstory. Those services handle information under their own policies. We do not sell your personal information. We share information you submit only with the providers needed to deliver app features or messages, or when required by law.

Security and children

We take reasonable steps to protect information we receive, but no electronic service is completely secure. Mapstory is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can address it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Mapstory's features or data practices change. We will revise the effective date above when we post an update.
